Basement Layout: What to Consider Before You Begin Planning
There’s more to finishing a basement than just picking the flooring and paint.
Many newer homes weren’t designed with a finished basement in mind, which can make layout planning complex.
Things like teleposts, bulkheads, and window placement affect how your space can be configured. If you want a legal bedroom in the basement, for example, you’ll need to work around where the egress windows are already placed. You may also need to consider structural changes, like adding beams, to achieve your ideal floor plan.
We are happy to guide our clients through these options, helping you find a design that suits your family’s needs, works with your home’s constraints, and avoids unnecessary rework.
Elevate your Basement with a Feature Wall
A well-designed feature wall can completely transform a space, and that’s exactly what we achieved in the Kotash Court entertainment area.
This custom media wall has a bold, eye-catching design that makes the space stand out. We installed floating cabinets, a recessed bookshelf, and wall-mounted shelves with integrated lighting to make the room functional while bringing visual flair to the space. We used a contrasting paint colour to anchor the wall and added fluted panel detailing to add texture and depth. Even the bulkheads were designed intentionally to tie into the millwork, making the entire wall feel seamless and cohesive.
To keep the room tidy, we wall-mounted the TV with an integrated raceway to conceal cables.

Add Luxury Touches to Your Basement Bathroom
The details in a basement bathroom matter, whether it’s the lighting, the premium fixtures, or the tile layout. A well-finished bathroom in the basement will make guests feel more comfortable and enhance your home’s design cohesion.
The Kotash Court basement bathroom isn’t any average bathroom: we created a polished, high-end space by installing heated floors, large-format tile, a floating vanity, quartz countertops, and a custom walk-in shower.
The walk-in shower features two-tone tile for added visual interest, a linear niche to store hygiene products, and premium plumbing fixtures that make it feel elevated. The wall-mounted vanity makes the bathroom feel spacious and the quartz countertop looks clean and modern.
When the basement matches the quality of the rest of the home, it becomes a place where family loves to spend quality time together.
