Hardwood Flooring
Traditional hardwood floors are made from solid wood. You will typically see beautiful oak and maple finishes in many Edmonton homes.
One of the benefits of choosing hardwood is that it can be refinished. With a good hardwood, you can get about four to six refinishings – this is a good option if you are going to be renovating or changing up your space in the future. Hardwood gives you a smaller plank size which might be the perfect fit for specific areas of your home.
The downside of hardwood flooring is that it is prone to showing damage, so you may want to consider engineered hardwood in high traffic areas, especially when there are pets or children.
Weather Should be a Factor When Considering What Type of Flooring You Choose
It’s important to consider what type of climate you are living in when choosing what flooring to install. With hardwood being a solid wood, it is prone to expanding and contracting throughout the different seasons, which can result in visible openings in your floor.
Engineered Hardwood
Engineered hardwood flooring is a hardwood surface that is laminated on top of different plywood or wood products. For our climate here in Edmonton, engineered hardwood is a great choice as it is not prone to expanding and contracting like a solid hardwood is. This type of flooring is also great for larger spaces as you are getting a wider plank than hardwood.

Engineered hardwood flooring is very diverse in terms of where you can install it, and is a good choice for a basement or kitchen. Pets are a common concern when you are looking for the perfect flooring option. If you are looking for a durable floor that will show minimal marks, engineered flooring is a good way to go.
